WLMH new hospital project cancellation: Letter to the Community -Mar'12
March 27, 2012
As you may already be aware, the provincial government announced its 2012 Budget this afternoon.
The Budget included the cancellation of several redevelopment projects. We are very saddened to let you know that our redevelopment project was one of the projects identified.
We want to assure you that we are actively working to understand this decision and to find out as much as we can about why our project was affected. Our staff, physicians, patients, donors and community at large deserve an explanation.
We are already in the process of preparing a letter to the Minister of Health and Long Term Care, as well as requesting a meeting with the Minister and other provincial representatives.
Our journey has been a long one and as you know, a challenging one. And that is why the Board and management team are not giving up because of today's announcement. We will continue to advocate for and promote the merits of our project over the upcoming days and weeks.
While this is a difficult message for all of us today, we can not lose sight of the caring individuals that have made WLMH such an amazing place to work and receive care. Your positive attitude and dedication to our patients has contributed to our excellent reputation in our community and beyond. This project would have provided the modern and safe facility required to continue this tradition of caring. And this is worth fighting for.
We will continue to share information with you as we know more.
